Astro SSR on Cloudflare Workers with a Sanity blog, YouTube feed, streaming Cmd-K assistant, dynamic OG images, RSS/sitemap, and a React Three Fiber easter egg. The interesting part is the boring abuse and cost controls around the AI feature.
The problem
Putting an AI box on a public site turns a portfolio into a small abuse surface: bots, cost spikes, slow providers, and answers that need to stay grounded in the site.
Architecture
Astro SSR on the Cloudflare adapter with React 19 islands; a Cmd-K command bar that streams from OpenRouter; per-IP quota, Turnstile verification, and KV caching; dynamic OG image generation; RSS + sitemap; and a Three.js / R3F game with Zustand state.
What shipped
Live on Cloudflare with format, typecheck, lint, test, build, and CSP checks on pre-push. This rebuild of benhickman.dev follows the same edge pattern.
